From the 1960s to the 1970s, the first laser in China was born, marking the beginning of the development of the Chinese laser industry. During this period, significant achievements were made in the international laser field.
Entering the 1980s, China’s laser industry experienced rapid growth. During this time, China’s first laser research institute, the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, was established, contributing significantly to the development of China’s laser industry.
In the early 1990s, China’s laser industry matured, achieving a series of major breakthroughs and innovations.
In the new century, China’s laser industry entered a phase of vigorous development. With government support, Chinese laser companies accelerated technological innovation and product upgrades, continuously improving the performance and quality of laser equipment.
In the laser processing industry, initial power levels were only 1500W-3000W. With advancements in technology, power levels have gradually broken through, now exceeding the six-figure mark and reaching the 100,000W level.
From 2023 to 2024, China’s laser industry has developed rapidly, with continuous breakthroughs in core technologies of high-power fiber lasers and constantly increasing output power limits. Laser brands are becoming increasingly localized. By the end of 2023, the localization rate of 1000W-6000W fiber lasers has reached over 98%. Additionally, the market penetration of domestic lasers in the above 10,000W power range has rapidly grown to nearly 70%.
